A “flock” of Tooth-billed Bowerbirds

Every year in June/July the Lilly-pillies (Syzygium smithii) are producing round fruits in shades of white and pink.

They are attracting many birds, especially large numbers of Satin Bowerbirds, which are joined by Spotted Catbirds, the odd juvenile Golden Bowerbird and some Tooth-billed Bowerbirds.

This year there was a small group of Tooth-billeds, at least 6 birds!

We watched them biting off pieces of leaves as well, with their notched beaks.

King Parrots and Crimson Rosellas are chewing the fruits to get at the seeds.
